Nursing Educator Shortage |
The ongoing nursing shortage is exacerbated by a lack of nurse educators, limiting nursing schools’ ability to enroll and graduate enough skilled professionals, a new report found. Consequences of this shortage include overwhelming workloads for current faculty, a reliance on adjuncts and clinical instructors with less experience, gaps between education and practice, and graduates with underdeveloped soft skills (like communication and empathy), and poor emotional resilience.

Medical Panel Suggests Lucy Letby’s Innocence |
Remember Lucy Letby, the UK nurse convicted of killing seven babies in her neonatal unit? A panel of medical experts now claims she may be wrongly convicted, arguing the babies’ deaths resulted from natural causes or medical errors. Her defense has submitted a case citing these new findings to the Criminal Cases Review Commission. This isn’t the first time experts have suggested
there may be alternate causes for the deaths.

Nurses face severe burnout and mental health struggles like anxiety and depression, yet fear of losing their licenses prevents many from seeking care. Licensure applications in 30 states include intrusive mental health questions, reinforcing stigma. Efforts are underway to remove these barriers, with some states updating policies and others exploring protective legislation. Experts stress that we need cultural and legal changes to ensure nurses can seek help without professional consequences.
