HUDDLE

Good Morning Readers,

This week was a full moon, and I’m not sure about you, but it sure felt that way. Full moons are notoriously bad luck in the hospital, but is there actually any truth to this? I researched and found an answer straight from the NIH for us here.

The Robot Will See You Now

The software company Nvidia and startup Hippocratic AI have partnered to test-drive an answer to the nursing shortage right out of the uncanny valley: AI nurses. We don’t mean virtual nurses β€” real people who meet patients over video. These beautifully β€” or creepily? β€” airbrushed nurse β€œbots” can do non-diagnostic tasks like post-op and medication follow-ups or nutritional guidance for $9/hour. Want to see it in action? Hear β€œLinda” make a patient call or watch β€œRachel” follow up after an appendectomy.

Big City, Bright Lights!Β

You’ve likely heard that air pollution and extreme heat can both increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. But there’s another form of pollution that may also increase the risk of stroke β€” and it’s probably not what you think: light pollution. A new study of more than 28,000 people in China has found a link between bright outdoor lights at night and stroke, possibly related to alterations in the body’s melatonin regulation.

Impressing Them Softly

Soft skills are those non-technical skills that have more to do with work behaviors, healthy habits, and interpersonal interactions than the knowledge you learn from books. Think communication, teamwork, flexibility, problem-solving, time management, creativity β€” in other words, the skills nurses particularly excel at. But which ones do employers value most? According to a recent analysis from CashNet, it depends on the state. Find out your state’s most coveted soft skills here.
