There are more than 385,000 nurse practitioners in the US, many of whom are founders or owners of their own businesses. After reviewing 46,000+ LinkedIn profiles, a new report found that Montana leads in NP-founded practices, with 5.2% of NPs being entrepreneurs. States with NP autonomy, mainly in the West, see higher entrepreneurship rates. One-fifth of all NP-founded practices nationwide focus on aesthetics, with other vital specialties being primary care (16%) and psychiatry (15%).

A person’s Medicaid bills don’t disappear after death — but their house might. The federal government has a routine but often undiscussed process requiring states to recover money from the assets of dead people who relied on Medicaid in their final years. These assets can include the deceased’s houses, even those now occupied by family members. Democratic lawmakers propose
chopping the program, which they deem “cruel” and capable of perpetuating “wealth disparities and intergenerational poverty.”

The Florida woman’s seemingly ordinary selfie taken in New York City eight years ago turned out to be life-altering when she noticed an unusual drooping eyelid in the photo. Following her instinct, she consulted a neurologist, who discovered a benign brain tumor in her MRI.
After the aggressively growing meningioma was removed, a follow-up procedure revealed another tumor (glioma) and a genetic predisposition to cancer.
