A new study in MMWR found that two dairy workers’ pet indoor cats tested positive for H5N1. Transmission can occur through contaminated pet food or exposure to infected humans or animals—including wild birds. Keeping your cats indoors can reduce their risk of infection.

Guiding Without Overriding |
Knowing as a nurse manager when to intervene and when to let nurses work through challenges is a delicate balance. Step in too soon, and you risk stifling confidence and critical thinking. Wait too long, and patient care—or your nurses’ morale—may suffer.
The key? Assess the situation. Is patient safety at risk? Is a nurse repeatedly struggling with the same issue? These are moments to provide immediate guidance. But if the challenge is a learning opportunity with no imminent harm, give them space. Offer support through coaching questions: What options do you see? What’s your next step?
