The American Diabetes Association has issued new guidelines at its annual San Diego meeting to screen patients for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. All adults with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes should be screened for the condition, estimated to affect nearly one in
four US adults. About 1.5-6.5% of adults have a rarer but more severe form called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH, which can require liver transplantation and cause liver cancer. STAT has the whole story.

Nurses Question Hospital Safety After Multiple Patient Rapes

Nurses at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas, are demanding answers from the hospital regarding how a man could enter the hospital and rape three patients during the night. The accused, Miguel Rodela, appeared in court on Wednesday and remained in jail with a $250,000 bond. Nurses at two Ascension hospitals are planning a one-day strike on June 27th, stating that safety is their top concern.Β
