Code Red in Ohio

The Ohio Nurses Association is “sounding the alarm” on the dangers of understaffing in Ohio hospitals with the Code Red campaign. The multi-year campaign aims to improve safe staffing ratios by working with legislators and raising awareness of patient risks when hospitals don’t have enough nurses. A recent Code Red survey from more than 11,000 Ohio nurses has revealed the awful patient care crisis and unsafe working conditions. Learn more about the campaign here.

Solo Travel with Dementia

It makes sense to have airline chaperones for minors when they fly solo, but what about the needs of older adults with dementia who fly by themselves? Around a dozen airports have recently updated protocols and operations to address the needs of adults with dementia who travel solo, but there’s much work to do to make flying more inclusive for adults with cognitive impairment. Check out the story on what’s been done and still needs to be done.

Finding Serenity at Work

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center opened its first “serenity lounge” during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing nurses and other patient care staff a place to unwind with massage chairs and aromatherapy. Since then, the center has opened 13 additional serenity lounges with similar amenities, based on research from the center’s assistant nurse manager, Florida Pagador, MSN, RN, finding just ten minutes in a massage chair in a quiet room improved emotional and mental health.

How To Correctly List Your Credentials

Did you know there is a correct order for listing nursing credentials such as degrees, certifications, and licensure after your name? It’s true! There is a right way to do it; if you do it wrong, people will notice. Don’t make this mistake on your resume! 

Here is the correct order for writing your nursing credentials using myself as an example: 

Your Name: Sarah Wells 

Educational Credentials (Your Highest Degree): ADN, BSN, MSN, or DNP

Licensure: LVN, LPN, RN, NP, CRNA

Certifications: CMSRN, CEN, PCCN, or CCRN

How does this look all together?

Sarah Wells, MSN, RN, CEN, CNL

MSN: Highest Degree

RN: Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN)

CEN: Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)

CNL: Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL)
