Nurses Sleeping in Vans

What happens if you’re a nurse on call, expected to be at the hospital within 30 minutes if needed, but the average home price that close is $3 million? Apparently, you sleep in a van. TJ Carella, a nurse at Stanford Health Care, said he knows at least 15 other staffers also sleeping in a car, van, or RV when on call because they can’t afford to live closer. What do you think of the hospital’s response?

In fact, more than half of adults still own a stuffed animal—and 40% still sleep with it—according to a survey by Build-A-Bear. Brain Tumors in One Nursing Unit

Something odd is going on at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Boston, but it remains uncertain whether it’s a coincidence or a serious environmental work hazard. An estimated 10 nurses working on the fifth floor maternity ward have reportedly developed brain tumors—some cancerous and some not. The hospital is investigating and so far has found “no environmental risks,” but the nurse speaking out says the hospital hasn’t been supportive, and the nurses “want to feel safe.”
