Sweeter Than Sugar |
There are dozens of ways to say thank you to nurses, especially for working on Thanksgiving, and, in turn, practicing gratitude has been shown to boost nurses’ resilience. But the nurses at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, are taking gratitude to the utterly cutest of extremes—by staging an adorable Thanksgiving-themed photo shoot for their newborns. Check out these images of precious cuties who look just sweet enough to, well, eat! |

The Thankful Shifts |
Every year for five years, nursing home nurse Olivia Blackburn has worked every Thanksgiving and all but one Christmas. It’s not something she planned, nor does she pretend it’s easy to come to work on those days. “But I feel like it’s just something I’m meant to do,” she told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Holiday pay is just one perk of working on Thanksgiving. You also make a real difference in patients’ lives and get lots and lots of food. |

Thanksgiving Strike Begins |
As planned a week ago, over 500 nurses at Ascension Saint Joseph Joliet began their two-day strike on Tuesday to protest unfair labor practices. It’s the union’s second two-day strike during negotiations for a new contract since May. Like last time, the hospital will lock the nurses out for an additional two days, which is hiring replacement nurses for four days. The hospital has 350 fewer nurses today than five years ago. |
