HUDDLE

Happy FriYAY, Readers!

I finally caught up on the recent Housewives of Beverly Hills episodes. I saw the debacle with CRNA cast member Annemarie Wiley, accused and almost mocked for her job and title as a nurse anesthetist. While the story is too complex to relay in my intro, I want to hear perspectives from our CRNA subscribers who have watched this (respond here). The debate over β€˜doctor’ titles is so common, and these episodes were a perfect example.Β

Hey Bravo, do you need a nursing media consultant? We can help 😉.

Big Fines in NY

According to the New York State Nurses Association, arbitrators have ordered Mount Sinai Health System in New York City to pay over $2 million in fines for consistently understaffing nurses across three hospitals. The three separate penalties β€” $934,000 for failing to hire enough new nurses at Mount Sinai Morningside, $957,050 for similar issues at Mount Sinai West, and $240,000 for persistent understaffing violations in the oncology unit at Mount Sinai Hospital β€” will be paid out to nurses who worked understaffed shifts.

Strike Ultimatum

Nurses at UChicago Medicine, represented by the National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United, voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if negotiations with management fail to address staffing and workplace safety concerns. Representing 2,800 nurses, the National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United demands revisions to support nurse retention and address staffing levels, training, resources, and workplace violence prevention. This echoes the 2019 strike (the first for the university center), highlighting ongoing tensions over working conditions and patient care.

Are You Curious

The sober curious movement is reshaping drinking habits, with more Americans opting for alcohol-free lifestyles, according to a survey from NCSolutions. The survey found that 41% of American adults plan to drink less, including 61% of Gen Z respondents. Reducing drinking includes saving money, improving physical and mental health, and making positive lifestyle changes. At the same time, nonalcoholic beverages are gaining popularity along with the trend of mindful drinking β€” being more intentionally considerate of your drinking habits.Β
