Don’t Call Scooby-Doo

TikTok is rife with posts about a β€œmystery virus” with symptoms common for many respiratory illnesses: nausea, faintness, congestion, shortness of breath, and excess mucus. It’s a β€œmystery” because the TikTokers test negative for Covid-19, flu, and RSV, but they don’t seem to realize that many viruses cause those symptoms, including the common cold. They also might have one of those three diseases despite a negative test result. The mini-panic is a side effect of the pandemic, The HillΒ Β reports.

Way to Go Canada

The trend of government-mandated nurse-to-patient ratios has reached the US’ northern neighbor. A new law in British Columbia just became the first Canadian province law to institute ratios in six different acute healthcare settings. Most adult medical and surgical units must have one nurse for every four patients, and high-acuity units must have one nurse for every two patients. The province also announced $237 million in nurse retention and recruitment funding.

Optum’s Not Optimal

A cyberattack at UnitedHealth that derailed insurance processing will likely continue for several more weeks. The company reported a system outage on Feb. 21 from a cyberattack at Change Healthcare in Optum, a United subsidiary. The next day, the company identified a β€œsuspected nation-state” as the culprit. The American Hospital Association is urging hospitals to consider disconnecting from Optum until it’s safe to reconnect, but pharmacists and doctors are meanwhile scrambling to meet patients’ needs and get paid.

Their technology eliminates these cumbersome steps, offering research-grade clinical imaging at the bedside.
