Nurses Week Around the USA

We weren't the only ones celebrating nurses last week—hospitals and organizations across the US honored nurses with awards, events, and special recognition. At Alton Memorial Hospital in Illinois, nurses enjoyed themed dress-up days, food trucks, and chair massages. The American Nurses Association provided educational webinars and resources to support professional growth. HSHS St. John’s and Jackson Hospital presented awards like the DAISY and Exemplar Awards, while the VA in Clarksburg hosted appreciation lunches and giveaways. These efforts celebrated nurses’ dedication, compassion, and essential role in patient care.

This Canadian Province Wants You!

If you’re among the increasing number of Americans looking to leave the US, British Columbia wants you. The Canadian province has just made it faster and easier for US nurses to register in BC—a process that now takes just days instead of the months it previously required. The province had already begun poaching US doctors in March. But Canada isn’t the only option for would-be emigrants. Check out the 10 highest paying countries for nurses.

Some Patients Hide GLP-1 Use

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro have revolutionized diabetes and obesity care, but some patients are extra secretive about who knows they’re taking them. Some even hide it from their spouses, The Guardian reports. The reasons vary, but much of it has to do with shame about their weight and worrying about being judged. The trend isn’t new, but it may soon become easier as companies work on small-molecule versions of these drugs available as pills.

How Nurses Can Save More Money on a Nurse’s Salary

Saving money on a nurse’s salary doesn’t mean you have to give up life’s little pleasures. Start by cutting costs on things you don’t use, like subscriptions or memberships you barely touch. Instead of eating out all the time, find ways to cook meals at home (it’s cheaper and healthier!).

And when it comes to travel, many companies offer special nurse discounts—so why not use those to enjoy a trip without the high price tag? The goal is to find balance. You can save, enjoy life, and still be financially secure.
