Bird Flu in Human #3 |
The bird flu outbreak that’s spread to at least nine states has now resulted in a third human infection — this time with respiratory symptoms. Though the patient doesn’t have a fever, the new case, reported in a Michigan dairy worker last Thursday, has a cough and a watery discharge from their eyes. The disease still doesn’t appear to be transmitted from person to person, but the first case with respiratory symptoms raises concerns
about that possibility nonetheless.

Paying It Forward |
Taylor Cooper was diagnosed with a childhood kidney cancer called Wilms Tumor at just four years old. But what she most remembers from the medical treatment that saved her life was how well the nurses took care of her. So she graduated high school early to begin studying to become a nurse herself. Now, Cooper is training at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory under Joy Jackson — one of the very nurses who cared for her all those years ago.
