Good Morning Readers! |
I hope you had a good holiday. This past weekend, I hosted my family and used my new Lenox china (pictured below👇). Collecting Christmas china has been a tradition passed along from my great-grandma, and I was thrilled to keep it alive this year.
Does your family have any holiday traditions? Let us know here. Next week, Iβll share my personal New Yearβs tradition.

Help From Eva and RosieΒ |
Ohio nursing homes are piloting tests for care robots to address staffing shortages. The robots, Eva and Rosie, assist with delivering packages and meals and cleaning food trays. They are part of a broader effort to explore solutions to the nursing home staffing crisis, which affects 99% of US facilities. While administrators report improved care with the robots,
questions about their ethical and practical implications persist. Ongoing research looks into the impact of care robots on work environments and caregiving roles in assisted living facilities.

CLABSIs Down at the Clinic |
After over a year in operation, Cleveland Clinicβs nurse-led initiative to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) β of which 250,000 occur each
year, mainly due to intravascular devices β is showing promising results. The program involves a visual form with 13 evidence-based measures, which nurses use during shift changes to assess central-line maintenance, taking corrective actions promptly as necessary. The formβs effectiveness in improving patient care and safety lies in its simplicity, and since November 2022, it has led to a 31.4% reduction in CLABSI rates.

Itβs All Over |
Nurses at two Prime Healthcare hospitals, Suburban Community Hospital and Lower Bucks Hospital, have ended a five-day strike. Prompted by expired labor contracts and ongoing negotiations with Prime, the strike sought to address concerns unmet by the proposed deal, which included better wages and healthcare benefits. Union members were also outraged by the surprising
potential sale of three Prime hospitals, including the two involved in the strike. If the hospitals are sold, the union nurses hope they will become part of a nonprofit system.
