Funding for Indigenous Nurses

For indigenous American students seeking a career in nursing, Arizona has an excellent funding opportunity. The University of Arizona College of Nursing has just received a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Indian Health Service to fund another five years of the Indians in Nursing: Career Advancement and Transition Scholars (INCATS) program. Students receive tuition and fee support along with a living stipend and resources to partner with tribal communities in the state.

Listeria Woes

One of the toughest bugs to avoid of those that cause food poisoning is listeria, a hardy bacteria that can live in a wide range of foods and temperatures. Now a new listeria outbreak linked to deli meat has already killed nine people and hospitalized 57 others. Boar’s Head has recalled its prepackaged deli products, but experts are expecting more cases to emerge in the meantime. Check out these guidelines to keep yourself safe.

To Travel or Not to Travel

You’ve seen the ads. You’ve heard about the salaries. But… is it for you? If you’ve ever wondered what it’s actually like to be a travel nurse, hear firsthand what three travel nurses have to say about their experiences. Demand has fallen a bit for travel nurses since the pandemic, but it’s still a viable career option for those able to move frequently and interested in the challengeβ€”and for 30% to 50% more than what most permanent positions earn.
