According to a congressional investigation, major pharmacy chains, including CVS, Kroger, and Rite Aid, have been sharing Americans’ prescription records with law enforcement without requiring a warrant. Pharmacy officials said they disclose records with only a subpoena, while some allow staff to disclose medical records on the spot.
Lawmakers are urging the Department of Health and Human Services to strengthen HIPAA rules, advocating for a warrant requirement and transparency from pharmacies in notifying customers about law enforcement requests.

A 2021 federal law requires hospitals to disclose prices, but most hospitals have yet to comply, according to the Patient Rights Advocate. So, the organization launched a free database tool called Hospital Price Files Finders, which has pricing data from 6,000 US hospitals to help individuals compare prices and save on medical bills. The tool addresses the need for transparency in healthcare costs, allowing consumers to make informed choices and avoid financial hardships associated with unexpected bills and debt collection.

Practicing Without Borders |
Wisconsin has joined an interstate credentialing agreement for physician assistants, following in the footsteps of Utah and Delaware. Once four more states join the agreement, PAs in these states can practice in any participating state, which is especially beneficial for telehealth practitioners. Wisconsin has also signed agreements for professional counselors and speech-language pathologists and is looking to do the same social work, dentistry, and dental hygiene.
