Nurse Saves Life at Football Game

When Erin Mender, an Indiana RN, attended the University of Alabama football game with her fiancΓ© on October 26, she was ready to kick back and enjoy the game. But when a middle-aged man passed out and fell just before kick-off, she helped medics carry him out of the stadium for hospital transport. Then one of the medics passed out. Unable to find a pulse, Mender began CPR until he gasped back a minute later. Watch the amazing video!

Burnout Harms Patient Safety

A new study confirms with data what every nurse already knows: Nurse burnout is linked to patient safety and satisfaction and lower quality of care. A meta-analysis of 85 studies with over 288,000 nurses from over 5,300 hospitals. Regardless of nurses’ age, sex, work experience, or geography, burnout was linked to more patient falls, medication errors, hospital-acquired infections, missed or neglected care, and adverse events or patient safety incidents.

Finding the Perfect Balance with connectRN

Jerry Enget, RN, loves being the go-to IV specialist at his nursing job in Tampa, Florida. "I enjoy the variety of med/surg. You can see a different patient population each shift and I always feel challenged seeing a little bit of everything," Enget says.Β

Though he liked the job, the long hours and required weekends and holidays got old, and he longed for balance between his chosen career and the rest of his life. In 2023, he discovered connectRN and has never looked back.Β

CARING COLLECTIVELY WITH TOGATHER

Small Things That Make a Big Difference

Over 60% of nurses report high burnout, which worsens care quality gaps for already marginalized patients. How can we navigate widening health inequities with fewer emotional and tangible resources? In this complex landscape, even small, intentional actions can make a big difference.

  • Equip yourself with curated toolkits: When time is tight, ready-made resources are invaluable. These toolkits offer quick insights and evidence-based approaches to equitable care. Try this free toolkit.

  • Find a work buddy: Having someone to check in withβ€”whether it’s a colleague or a friend outside of workβ€”can make a world of difference. A buddy provides support and perspective, helping you feel less alone.

  • Calm your nervous system: Quick grounding techniques help manage stress, letting you stay present with patients. Try a simple breathing exercise or a short mindfulness routine.

While these steps can’t fix the system overnight, they can empower us to navigate it with resilience and compassionβ€”one small action at a time.
