Arlington Juneteenth Celebration Celebrates Cityβs First Black Nurse
|
|
In 1967, Margaret Taylor made history when she became the first black nurse to practice in Arlington, Texas, the birth state of Juneteenth. Taylor, now 82, has worked at Arlington Memorial Hospital, today known as Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, for nearly 50 years. This was only possible because, as a teen, she traveled outside of Arlington to pursue educational opportunities in Fort Worth, 13 miles away. She has now been recognized by local Arlington officials and Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital in a Juneteenth ceremony for her historic work.
