Nurses from around the globe were brought together to innovate, ideate, and participate in the NurseHack4Health Mini Hack. They had panels on nurse innovation, venture funding for your idea, prototyping, and
what global innovation looks like.

Ringworm STI Hits US |
A rare sexually transmitted ringworm infection caused by the fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes type VII has been reported in the US for the first time (last year, France reported 13 cases). The case involved a New York City man who developed a rash after traveling and engaging in sexual activity. The infection, initially resistant to fluconazole, responded to
terbinafine and itraconazole over 4 months. This case highlights concerns over antifungal resistance and the importance of considering fungi in diagnosing sexually transmitted diseases.

Merger Layoffs |
Amid its impending merger with Legacy Health, Oregon Health & Science University has announced widespread upcoming layoffs affecting some 500 workers. Despite cost-cutting in other areas, OHSU President Dr. Danny Jacobs will receive a $350,000 retirement benefit increase (on top of a $1.65 million salary). The Oregon Nurses Association and the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees criticized the layoffs and executive bonuses, urging OHSU to prioritize patient care and staff support.

Planet-Friendly Diet |
A new study shows that following a planet-friendly diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains reduces the risk of premature death by nearly one-third and significantly lowers greenhouse gas emissions. This diet minimizes animal products and highly processed foods, benefiting both human health and the environment. Analyzing over 30 years of dietary data from 200,000 people, researchers found that those who closely followed the Eat-Lancet planetary diet had significantly lower risks of neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, cancer, and respiratory diseases.
