Good Morning, Readers! |
In a sort of strange health related issue, many dermatologists have predicted that scalp health will be on-trend this year. Among some recommendations are the viral rosemary oil trend to promote hair growth. But does it actually work? Take a look here and here to decide for yourself. Hint: figure out why your hair is thinning and practice patience. Itβs not an overnight success.

Morning-After Savings |
According to a new JAMA Network OpenΒ Β study, making the morning-after pill available over the counter almost completely eliminated hospital expenses related to getting the prescription. Costs dropped 96%, from $7.6 million to $385,946. The findings come just after the Biden administration announced new steps to protect abortion and contraception access. And
itβs only a month before the Supreme Court hears a case on abortion pill access, which the FDA expanded in January.

Demands Not Met |
Nurses from Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine, protested staffing issues during a rally Saturday as the hospital and the nursesβ union reached an impasse on contract negotiations. A Maine State
Nurses Association representative said the most significant issues are safe staffing and staff retention. Still, the hospital rejected the unionβs requests to focus on recruiting and retaining local nurses instead of relying heavily on travel nurses.Β

Whatβs the Difference? |
While healthcare workers understand the differences between NPs, PAs, and doctors, the general public often struggles with the distinctions. Yet NPs have tripled, and PAs have doubled since
2010, so many more patients are seeing NPs and PAs instead of physicians. An excellent article from Vox that you can share with friends and family explains the differences and how patients can decide whether to see an NP, PA, or doctor, especially with waiting lists growing ever longer.

MANAGER'S MEMO
|
Constructive Feedback |
As managers guiding complex care teams, our feedback significantly impacts staff growth and patient outcomes. Constructive feedback is critical for development, especially amid rapidly advancing medicine. Rather than criticism focused on the person, offer timely input centered on behaviors. For example, after a difficult surgery, gather staff to discuss strengths demonstrated and potential areas for improvement. This facilitates constructive analysis without blame.
By fostering open dialogue and a culture of continuous learning, we enable nurses to gain insights for sharpening competenciesβframe feedback conversations around patient-centered care goals, underscoring how self-improvement ties into advancing care quality. With compassion and specificity, we can promote reflective self-critique without judgment. Our words hold the power to uplift teams. Feedback helps nurses see their
incredible potential more clearly. With supportive guidance, we nurture growth. Our tone and questions can inspire staff to keep reaching higher.
