How Overturning Chevron Affects Healthcare
|
The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1984 Chevron decision, mandating that courts exercise independent judgment in statutory interpretation rather than deferring to the administrative agencies that hold expertise in their respective areas. The ruling may affect healthcare by increasing legal challenges against agencies such as HHS, FDA, and CMS and slowing
rulemaking processes. Agencies overseeing technical and scientific areas might face more scrutiny, potentially affecting regulations on Medicare drug pricing, laboratory tests, staffing standards, and more. A Mississippi judge has already used the ruling to block the Biden Administration’s new healthcare anti-discrimination rules for transgender Americans.

Producer Finds Purpose in Nursing |
Shannon Penney left her freelance advertising career during the pandemic to become an RN at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Horse Therapy Helps Neurology Patients
|
At the San Giovanni Battista Hospital in Rome, therapists are using horses and ponies in hippotherapy to help neurological patients regain movement and confidence. The program, which has
treated over 600 patients in 2023, supports patients who suffer from many different types of neurological disease. It combines traditional rehabilitation with the psychological benefits of connecting with animals. Patients, including some who are recovering from a coma or have Parkinson’s disease, are reporting increased balance, mobility, and self-assurance through these sessions.
