2025 Code of Ethics for Nurses

The ANA has released its 2025 Code of Ethics for Nurses, which retains and updates the nine provisions from 2015 and adds a tenth provision addressing global ethical concerns. It refines some language for clarity, reinforces six key nursing relationships, and integrates evolving perspectives on values, virtues, and social justice issues. It also explicitly recognizes racism as a public health crisis, provides ethical guidance regarding AI and emerging technologies, and reflects on pandemic lessons to renew focus on safety.

NOLA Nurses to Strike Again

On Feb. 5, nurses at University Medical Center in New Orleans will strike amid stalled contract negotiations for the second time in the last several months. Representing nearly 600 nurses, the union seeks stronger emergency preparedness—especially in light of the New Year’s Day truck attack in New Orleans—and better conditions to retain staff. The medical center told Becker’s it will remain fully operational with replacement nurses during the strike.

Advocates Push for Coverage of Anti-Obesity Drugs

A coalition of 20,000 advocates and major health groups is urging CMS to expand Medicare and Medicaid to cover FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, which would benefit up to 7.5 million enrollees. Led by the Health Equity Coalition for Chronic Disease, the effort addresses rising obesity rates—affecting about 50% of adults—and related health disparities, particularly in underserved communities. With bipartisan support, this potential change now rests with CMS and could reshape federal health policy.
