Novel Way Employer Handles Insurance |
In 2022, Pennsylvaniaβs Lycoming College switched from a group health plan to an individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement (ICHRA), giving employees a set amount to buy their own insurance rather than purchasing it for them. This saved the college $1.4 million in the first year, with employees saving an average of $1200 in premiums while being able to choose a more personalized plan. While ICHRAs offer more flexibility and control, critics warn that they could increase premiums in the individual market and add even more complexity to managing coverage.

Stick to the Facts in NJ |
A New Jersey bill aims to penalize healthcare workers for spreading false health claims, particularly in response to pandemic-related misinformation. The bill passed a committee vote and allows professional boards to define penalties. Supporters argue it protects public health, while anti-vaccine activists and other critics claim it could limit doctorsβ freedom to treat patients.
A similar law in California was quietly repealed.

NPs Sue for Gender Discrimination |
Some 200 nurse practitioners in New York have filed a class-action lawsuit against the stateβs Civil Service Commission, alleging gender-based wage discrimination and underpayment. The NPS, predominantly female, claim their pay is capped at grade 24 despite their advanced qualifications and responsibilities. The plaintiffs, working in agencies like the Department of Corrections, argue that this structure devalues their education and experience. Their union has sought pay reclassification, but the state has not acted on their demands.
