Happy FriYAY Readers! |
As we round out Women's History Month, I want to give a huge shout out to our female nurse-led team. Without you, there would be no newsletter and I am eternally grateful for your commitment to our mission and to the advancement of our profession. Did you know that only 2% of women get funding for their businesses? We
are breaking this statistic, one independent woman at a time.Β
PS- Our team is taking a Mental Health Monday and there will be no newsletter. We will resume our usual publication on Tuesday, April 2.

Honoring a Nurse Trailblazer |
Florence Nightingale is the person who often comes to mind when we think about historical women in medicine. But did you know that the nurse practitioner profession, widely ranked as the βbest healthcare job,β also owes its existence to a trailblazing woman? Dr. Loretta βLeeβ Ford co-founded the NP role in 1965 with the worldβs first NP program at the
University of Colorado. In 2020, Ford celebrated her 100th birthday by receiving the Surgeon Generalβs Medallion β the highest civilian honor given by the Public Health Service and the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

American Red Cross |
Bordentown City, New Jersey, recently honored another important founding figure in medicine β Clara Barton, who founded the American Red Cross in 1881 β by officially renaming its Bordentown Post Office in honor of her. Barton is no stranger to Bordentown residents as she helped found the first free school in New Jersey, located in Bordentown. Today, the Clara Barton Schoolhouse is one of the stateβs important landmarks and residents are working to restore the historic building.

Reading Womenβs History |
If youβre hungry for more womenβs history, you might want to check out the newly released memoir Duty Calls: Lessons Learned From an Unexpected Life of Service by Antonia Novello. If the authorβs name sounds familiar, itβs because Novello was the first female β and first Hispanic β US Surgeon General, serving from 1990β1994. Before her appointment, she spent two decades at the National Institutes of Health, where she helped draft legislation about organ transplantation. Check out Rocky Mountain PBSβs interview with Novello to learn more about her life and memoir.

Spring is officially here, nurses! Spring has officially arrived, and it's the perfect time for you to embark on a transformative financial journey that will revitalize your financial well-being.Β
Consider this your prescription for financial revitalization:
Take the time to assess and perform a financial check-up. Comprehensively examine your income and expenses to understand where your money is being allocated.
Once you clearly grasp your financial landscape, it's time to establish your priorities. What are your aspirations and objectives for this year? Having a distinct vision in mind will give you the motivation and drive needed to achieve your financial goals.
Lastly, eliminate unnecessary expenditures. By decluttering your spending habits, you'll free up more resources to allocate toward the things that truly hold value and significance in your life.
