Hello, Nurses! |
When I decided to pursue a nursing degree, I was thrilled to discover I would need to take no higher-level math courses. 🤩 Iβve never been a fan of the subject, and havenβt needed to do much past reading recipes and calculating pediatric doses.Β
But, my math-phobia has left me a little lost in financial management. When it comes to investing, paying off my loans, and juggling money decisions, I need help. The good news? Help is here! Keep reading for a financial solution tailored to nurses.

βCognitive Shufflingβ for Better Sleep |
If you ever have trouble falling asleep at night, a simple technique dubbed βcognitive shufflingβ may help. When racing thoughts and stressful memories stop you from relaxing into a peaceful slumber, this technique teaches you to shuffle emotionally neutral objectsβto gently pass them back and forthβwhich distracts your brain and can help you ease into sleep. For example, think of a word, like βant.β Then, think of words that begin with each letter of that word: βApple,β βNice,β and βTrain.β For another shuffling option, you can visualize calming scenarios to promote relaxation before sleep.

Infants Remember More Than We Thought |
A Yale study suggests infants can establish memories earlier than previously thought, although you probably wonβt remember your first food or the experience of being born. Published in Science, the study found when an infantβs hippocampus was more active while viewing an image, they were more likely to recognize it later. The authors think episodic memory may even form before age one. Research is ongoing to discover whether infant memories persist into preschool years.

Better Staffing = Lower C-Section Rates |
A new study published in Nursing Outlook has found better nurse staffing during labor and delivery was correlated with lower rates of C-sections, including VBACs (vaginal births after C-sections). The study involved 2,786 nurses in 193 hospitals in 23 states, with data collected in 2018 and 2019. C-section occurrences were 11% lower in hospitals that adhered to
the national standards for nurse staffing ratios.
