Little Kids Are Potatoes
Small children are especially vulnerable to the extreme heat sweeping the nation. One expert suggests thinking of small kids as potatoes: if you want to cook a potato, it takes longer for heat to reach the core of a larger potato than a small one. Additionally, childrenβs bodies take longer to sweat and acclimate to a warm environment and are more susceptible to dehydration. NPR has some tips on helping kids keep cool, including immersing their feet in cold water, having them drink three to eight ounces of water every 20 minutes, and avoiding sugary and caffeinated drinks.

Nurse and Child Kidnapped
American nurse Alix Dorsainvil β wife of the director of the El Roi Haiti Christian humanitarian aid organization β and her child were abducted on El Roi Haitiβs campus near the capital city Port-au-Prince. Originally a nurse from New Hampshire, Dorsainvil moved to Haiti after her husband invited her to provide nursing care for
children at a Haitian school. This is not an isolated incident. Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas have been plagued by a kidnapping-for-ransom epidemic that has stretched for years.
