They Broke the Law |
Nurses in San Francisco are suing the city, alleging violations of California’s labor law. The lawsuit accuses the city of failing to provide meal and rest breaks and to compensate for missed breaks at the city’s public hospitals. In 2023, the state enacted the California Meal Break & Rest Break Law, which requires employers to provide an unpaid, off-duty meal period of at least 30 minutes after five hours of work, among other measures.

Long nails are currently in style thanks to celebrities like Cardi B and Billie Eilish, but are they just long nails, or are they really poisonous claws? According to USA Today, studies have found 32 strains of bacteria and 28 strains of fungi underneath fingernails — including MRSA and staph. Those microorganisms can easily enter the body through scratching, nail-biting,
nose-picking, and finger-sucking. And while not life-threatening, a nasty nail infection could leave you with disfigured fingernails.

Cap It Off |
It’s commonplace for CEOs of companies to make significantly more money than their employees — including in the healthcare sector. The Minnesota Nurses Association has had enough of it, introducing the “Healing Greed Agenda” for the 2024 legislative session. This measure would cap CEO pay at nonprofit hospitals while addressing workplace violence, nurse loan forgiveness, and transparency in hospital management. While hospital CEOs take six-digit raises each year, “patients are charged more and healthcare workers are getting chewed up and spit out,” the agenda notes.
