Montana Rep Pushes for PA Expansions |
Montana Republican Representative and physician assistant Jodee Etchart is advocating multiple PA-related bills to address the stateβs provider shortage. One proposal seeks to add PAs to House Bill 458, which limits noneconomic malpractice damages, given that PAs are now classified as independent from physicians. And House Bill 183 would establish an interstate agreement allowing licensed PAs to practice across participating states, while House Bill 143, which would define PAs as βtreating physicians,β has passed the House unanimously and is now advancing in the Senate.

California Sets Sights on Wrongful Health Insurance DenialsΒ |
Californiaβs SB 363 seeks to curb wrongful health insurance denials by imposing fines up to $1 million on insurers with high appeal reversals. Inspired by cases like Colleen Hendersonβs, whose fight with UnitedHealthcare over her daughterβs life-saving treatment led to bankruptcy, the bill mandates transparency in denial rates. With rising public frustration over
insurer practices and rising claims denials, the legislation could set a precedent for stricter regulations, though it excludes Medi-Cal, Medicare, and self-insured employer plans.
