NSAIDs May Reduce Delirium |
At the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the findings of one particularly interesting study caught our eye. Researchers found that taking NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, might reduce
the risk of delirium after a surgery. Postoperative delirium affects up to half of hospitalized surgical patients and is a risk factor for poor recoveryβand poor long-term health outcomes. If further research confirms these findings, it could be a simple, affordable treatment to reduce postoperative risks.

Virtual Reality Nurse Training |
As virtual reality (VR) becomes more common in nurse training, a recent study reported on a University of Minnesota School of Nursing pilot program for newly licensed RNs. A Meta Oculus Quest 2 provided an orientation to equipment and controls plus two clinical scenarios: a med-surg patient with pyelonephritis followed by a new admission with high blood glucose. The result was fast feedback without the bias of subjective assessment. What are your thoughts about using VR in nurse education?

CARING COLLECTIVELY WITH TOGATHER

Healing with Restorative Justice |
Toxic nursing workplace cultures often stem from harm experienced by patients, supervisors, physicians, and systemic inequities. Unfortunately, this pressure can lead to lateral violenceβnurses mistreating each other. In fact, 60% of nurses report bullying from colleagues.Β
Restorative justice (RJ) offers a way to break this cycle by focusing on repair, accountability, and collective healing. It is an approach rooted in Indigenous traditions, emphasizing that people are connected and communities thrive through shared responsibility.
RJ practices include:
Restorative Circles: Safe spaces for open dialogue. Learn how to lead a circle.
Mindset Shifts: Shift from blame to understanding the root causes of behavior.Β
Peer Support Networks: Build resilience through community care. Learn how to find your people.
When we treat each other with care, we foster healthier environments, improve teamwork, and ultimately provide better patient care. Letβs replace the old adage that βnurses eat their youngβ with a commitment to collective healing and transformation.
