When the nonprofit Research Institute for Gender Therapeutics asked the FDA about conducting a clinical trial for estradiol to eventually earn an indication for gender-affirming care instead of relying only on off-label use, they weren’t sure what to expect. The response surprised them—in a good way. The FDA advised them not to have a placebo arm, which fits with
experts’ warnings that controlled trials may not be ethical or safe for gender-affirming care treatments.

LinkedIn has become an increasingly helpful tool for job hunting, and now they’ve added features to make it even better for nurses. New filtering options let users “customize their search with filters for different specialties, shifts, schedules, and licenses,” Becker’s reports. Nurses can also update their profile with more than 40 specific nursing skills and select job preferences on the “Open to Work” feature that affects what recruiters see on their profile. People with stronger quad muscles relative to hamstrings may have a lower risk of needing a total knee replacement, according to research presented at the annual Radiological Society of North America meeting. Although the research comes from 134 people with osteoarthritis, researchers think the findings might appear more broadly for those without arthritis. More than half of the estimated 14 million people with knee arthritis will likely need a knee replacement—one of the country’s most expensive surgeries.
