Fastest Growing Profession

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurse practitioner is expected to be the fastest-growing profession in the coming years, with a growth rate of more than 45% by 2031. Of the $100 million the Department of Health and Human Services is allocating to grow the nursing workforce, about a third is going towards the Advanced Nursing Education Workforce Program. There are several reasons for this NP popularity, including healthcare’s shift to β€œteam-based healthcare models” and home-based medical care, a growing US population with advanced age and chronic conditions, and improved salary and working conditions over RNs.

Dr. Is Not In

A SF-based health tech startup, Forward, aims to bring AI-powered care to malls nationwide. These β€œCarePod” kiosks β€” 8 ft by 8 ft metallic boxes β€” guide patients through body scans, blood pressure readings, and finger prick blood draws for health checks without human interactions. Clinicians review the diagnostic tests remotely and video in to answer questions, but the kiosks have no humans on-site save for CarePod service assistants. Users get unlimited access for $99 monthly, but Forward isn’t accepting insurance.

Dangerous Endoscopy?

Salem Hospital in Massachusetts is being hit with a class action lawsuit after up to 450 endoscopy patients were possibly exposed to HIV and Hepatitis B and C due to improper IV procedures. The lawsuit comes on behalf of patient Medlina Cashman, who says she now has to undergo tests to see if she was exposed (β€œa process which can take months or even years”). Salem says there have been no reports of anyone contracting an infection from the procedures; the risk is β€œextremely small,” and potentially infected patients were offered free screenings.

Unleash the Power of Radical Generosity

We’re six days away from Giving Tuesday! There’s a good chance you’ve heard of it, but you may wonder, β€œWhat is Giving Tuesday?” Giving Tuesday started with the question: could a day be created that celebrates giving back rather than consuming? Could a ritual be created leveraging the power of digital hyperconnectivity and collaboration to make generosity go viral?

Born in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a radical generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform communities worldwide, inspiring millions to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Giving Tuesday strategically falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in response to the overwhelming consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.Β

There’s a fundamental truth that gives us hope and that together, we can do extraordinary things. Harness the power of commUNITY by joining Debriefing the Front Lines' 4th annual Giving Tuesday campaign as we rally to provide 300 scholarship debriefing sessions to nurses in need!
