Explaining Cold Season to Patients |
It’s well established that winter brings with it an increased risk for flu, RSV, COVID-19, and other respiratory viruses. But milder illnesses, like the common cold, are also more prevalent. That’s not because the cold weather itself directly causes a cold, explains public health nurse Libby Richards, but the colder temperatures do make it easier to catch the viruses circulating. Richards’ explanation is helpful for nurses to use when explaining to patients why and how to protect themselves this winter.

Nurses Mostly Happy with Career |
A whopping 92% of nurses are happy with their career choice, according to a new Nurse Career Satisfaction Report from Medscape. Yet only 73% said, if they had it to do over again, they would follow the same career path; less than half would choose the same specialty. According to one in three respondents, the biggest reward of their job was helping other people and making a difference in their lives. Check out the other survey findings.

Hospital Helps Keep Lights On |
It’s not just the cost of medications and clinic visits that can become a financial burden to patients. Many have trouble simply paying their utility bills—which increases other health risks.
