The Air We Breathe |
Itβs well established that air pollution can cause a wide range of health problems, even aside from respiratory ones, from increasing the risk of stroke and heart disease to affecting brain health in children and older adults. But at least we have air quality standards for outdoor air. Not so for indoor air, and poor indoor air can also reduce cognition, shorten life spans, and increase the spread of infectious diseases. Experts argue that itβs past time for indoor air quality standards.

Who Are You? |
How people identify their race and ethnicity in government forms has wide-ranging impacts on public policy, but itβs also very personal for people who need to be seen for who they are. The U.S. government has listened to those concerns and is changing how it collects race and ethnicity data for the first time in 27 years. The changes should improve
reporting for Hispanics and allow Middle Eastern Americans to identify as something other than white.

Practice Denied |
Oklahoma was poised to become the next state to allow advanced practice registered nurses to prescribe certain medications without physician supervision. However, the Oklahoma governor vetoed the bill, which would have given wider prescribing authority to NPs who meet specific criteria. The governor expressed unease at allowing NPs to prescribe Schedules III through V controlled substances without a doctorβs supervision. He said he didnβt believe it was the
answer to addressing reduced healthcare access in rural areas.Β

TECH TUESDAYΒ WITH NURSE MANNY
|
No Fear NVIDIAΒ |
Has the NVIDIA and Hippocratic AI partnership, with their "AI agents" costing just $9 an hour, worried you about our future in nursing? I'm keeping calm for the moment. First, I am still waiting to see two health systems share a PDF without issue. Secondly, AI can't and won't replace the irreplaceable elements we bring to healthcare. While AI will
assist in easing our workloads, nursing's essence goes far beyond tasks. It's about compassion, critical thinking, and our unique human interactions with our patients. I see AI as a tool to support us, not a threat. We're more than just workers; we're caregivers at heart. Still curious, be a part of testing the AI!Β
