PAs Push to End AMA’s “Scope Creep” Campaign |
The American Academy of Physician Associates is urging the American Medical Association (AMA) to stop its “scope creep” campaign that opposes expanding the roles of physician assistants (PAs). They say the AMA’s stance is outdated and harmful, and they requested a meeting to work out their differences—they sent a second meeting request after the AMA missed the
first one. Surveys suggest PAs feel the AMA’s actions misrepresent PA contributions and negatively impact efforts to address healthcare workforce shortages.

A new study found that nearly two-thirds of avocado oil products tested were mixed with cheaper oils—including from major retailers like Walmart, Kroger, and Safeway—potentially posing health risks like allergic reactions. The study calls for stricter testing and standards in the industry to protect consumers. Rather than
conduct their own tests, retailers rely on the word of suppliers, some of whom say it’s an open secret that the avocado oil industry is rife with adulteration, similar to olive oil in years past.

Sepsis Survivors Face High Readmission Rates |
September is Sepsis Awareness Month and a new study has found that sepsis survivors face high readmission rates, particularly those discharged to home or home health care. Despite the success of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign in reducing sepsis prevalence and mortality, nearly a quarter of sepsis survivors in the study were readmitted within 30 days—mainly due to infections— with 68.3% experiencing another septic episode.

A new report by Vanguard shows the average 401(k) balance by age in 2024. Here are a few stats that jumped out at me:
Average balance for ages 25-34 is $37,557
Average balance for ages 35-44 is $91,281
Average balance across all age groups was $134,128
