Thunderstruck! Well, Lightning-struck Actually!
An ICU nurse at Boston Children’s Hospital revived a woman struck by lightning on Saturday at a beach near the nurse’s home. Tracy Cronin, RN, had been sitting at the front of her house Saturday before a storm rolled in, and she suddenly heard a massive bang. Outside, she saw a woman lying on the beach. As neighbors carried her up, Cronin immediately began CPR and eventually got her pulse to return, though the woman’s condition remains unclear. |

I Feel My Temperature Rising
Although 98.6º F is considered the standard “normal” temperature, an individual’s typical temperature varies by time of day, age, sex, height, and weight. A new study in JAMA Internal Medicine analyzed over 618,000 oral temperature readings at an outpatient clinic to find that normal temperatures ranged from 97.3º to 98.2º, averaging at 97.9º, after excluding people with infectious diseases or type 2 diabetes. Death by Dog Bite
Deaths from being bitten or struck by a dog — including dying from a fall after being knocked over — aren’t exactly common. They averaged about 43 deaths a year from 2011 to 2021, according to the CDC’s recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMRW). Yet from 2018 to 2021, deaths more than doubled for men (increasing from 15 to 37 a year) and women (from 20 to 44). The MMWR report doesn’t offer any possible reasons why. The American Veterinary Medical Association has prevention tips. |
