Steward Struggles Continue |
Steward Health Care received court approval to sell its six Massachusetts hospitals for $343 million, allowing it to exit the state $17 million deeper in debt. The sale, however, was overshadowed by CEO Ralph de la Torreβs refusal to testify before a Senate subcommittee that has been investigating the bankrupt company. A whistleblower has also alleged de la Torre illegally conspired with foreign officials to nab a hospital contract abroad. Ultimately, the deals aim to protect jobs and prevent hospital closures.

NP Sues Over Debt Relief |
Nurse practitioner Haley Clements of Alabama is suing HHS over a $217,500 penalty for breaching a student loan relief program aimed at increasing healthcare access in rural areas. The government was supposed to pay her $25,000 debt if she stayed in her job for 3 years, but she struggled to find a qualifying position after one of her supervising physicians retired and another died.
Despite notifying HHS of her situation, her requests for contract termination were denied.

Lawmakers Fight for Tampon Safety |
A study released earlier this summer found toxic metals in tampon products from over a dozen popular brands. Lawmakers are now urging the FDA to strengthen tampon safety standards and theyβve called for a review of current regulations to protect women from harmful substances. The FDA responded by initiating studies to assess the risks. Some states have also enacted
laws requiring ingredient disclosures and banning certain harmful chemicals in menstrual products.

THAT REMOTE LIFE WITH NURSE FERN |
Salary Transparency |
Ever gone through the entire process of applying for a job, only to find out the salary is less than you thought?Β
There are no federal laws that mandate salary transparency, but some states have salary transparency regulations, so you can waste less time on low-hanging fruit.Β
Salary transparency may include these elements:
Disclosing the salary range in job postings
Descriptions of bonuses or commissions
Providing a salary range upon request to an interview candidate
Requiring transparency with internal transfers or upon promotion
Providing equal pay throughout the company for relatively equal work or work with the same job title
Providing salary ranges for jobs that are done remotely, outside the companyβs home state
Prohibiting potential employers from asking about your past salaries during the hiring process
