Kennedy Fires Entire Vaccine Committee |
In a move that shocked public health experts, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. dismissed all 17 members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the doctors, researchers, and other experts who recommend official national vaccine policy. Though billed as a move to “restore trust,” the dismissals—a violation of Kennedy’s promise to Sen. Cassidy in exchange for his confirmation vote—would allow Kennedy to appoint anyone, including anti-vaccine advisors, to the committee who could then discourage vaccines. |

Connecticut Nurses Under Investigation |
In a story that sadly never ends, the Florida schools’ nursing degree scam has led to an investigation into 69 more nursing licenses of Connecticut nurses. The federal investigation, dubbed Operation Nightingale, began in early 2023 into the more than 7,600 fake nursing diplomas awarded by two schools. Convictions had already occurred by the end of 2023, but the fallout has continued with prison sentences and additional investigations. |

Nurse Brings Comfort with Photos |
When Nayana Gadde, a nurse at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, began photographing pets as a hobby seven years ago, she probably never imagined that it would become another way for her to show compassion and empathy to others. But now she brings comfort to other pet owners by photographing some of their final days with their owners. Gadde doesn’t charge for these end-of-life “soul pictures,” but instead encourages donations to the Philadelphia senior pet rescue City of Elderly Love. |

CARING COLLECTIVELY WITH TOGATHER |
This Pride, Care Out Loud |
Pride started as a protest, and for many LGBTQ+ nurses and patients, the fight for safety and dignity in healthcare continues.
-
Over 1 in 3 LGBTQ+ adults report discrimination from a provider.
-
Trans and nonbinary patients are often misgendered or denied care altogether.
-
LGBTQ+ nurses face bias from patients, coworkers, and leadership, with few protections.
We can’t just be “inclusive” one month a year. Here’s how to care out loud all year long:
🪞 Mirror Language. Use patients’ names and pronouns, and make sure they’re respected across the chart.
🌈 Back Each Other. Speak up when your LGBTQ+ colleagues face disrespect.
📚 Keep Learning. Explore this CE resource on LGBTQ+ healthcare allyship.
Pride is about visibility and action. This month, make your care unmistakably affirming. |
