Nurses Honored for Greatness |
A big congratulations to the 40 nurses recently honored by the Simms/Mann Family Foundation's Off the Chart: Rewarding Nursing Greatness campaign. These awards come with a “no-strings-attached $10,000 gift in appreciation of… their leadership, ingenuity, and expertise in caring for their fellow humans and future generations,” according to the website. The recipients come from multiple specialty fields and institutions across the U.S. What would you do with your award money if you received such an award? |

Nurses with “Pioneering Spirit” |
As nurses gather in New Orleans this week for the annual American Association of Critical-Care Nurses conference, several of them will be honored for outstanding achievements. Among them are nurse scientist Tom Ahrens and veterans’ health advocate Ali Tayyeb, who are both receiving AACN Pioneering Spirit Awards. Ahrens, founder of Viven Health, has helped reduce sepsis incidence while Tayyeb, CEO of RN-Mentor Consulting and host of the RN-Mentor podcast, has worked to improve health and social outcomes for veterans. |

Novavax Covid Vaccine Approved |
The FDA has finally approved the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine after political appointees of Commissioner Marty Makary had overridden career staff recommendations to approve it. Until now, it had been available only under an emergency use authorization. However, the approval is only for people aged 65 and older and those with at least one high-risk condition, a restriction the mRNA vaccines lack. The decision may foreshadow changes coming with the new vaccine “framework” Makary has announced. |
