UbiSim, Labster’s virtual reality simulation platform for nursing education, was named one of TIME’s best inventions of 2024. The platform provides immersive, customizable medical scenarios that allow students to practice patient care for complex cases, including with underserved minority patients or those with stigmatized conditions like HIV. Google Chatbot’s Threatening Messages |
In a conversation with Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, about the challenges and solutions for aging adults, a Michigan grad student and his sister received a disturbing response degrading them and urging them to “please die.” Google said the response violated its policies and that large language models can sometimes provide “non-sensical” responses, and the company has implemented safeguards to prevent recurrence. In 2023, private industry employers reported 2.6 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses, an 8.4% decrease from 2022. While the healthcare sector saw a drop in total cases, it still recorded the highest injury rate among industries, with ambulance services and nursing care facilities ranking first and second, respectively. As we’ve previously mentioned, the American Hospital Association and the FBI have partnered to reduce targeted violence in the healthcare setting (of course, many non-violent injuries occur in healthcare, too).

The Importance of Quantifying Your Experience |
Quantifying accomplishments on your resume is key to providing context and demonstrating your impact. Recruiters will not read between the lines.
Last month, we polled nurses to ask which of the following two resume bullets they preferred:
A. Floated between 3 critical care units in a 364-bed level 1 trauma center.
B. Responsible for floating to critical care units and providing clinical care.
75% of nurses preferred A, while 25% of nurses preferred B.
Telling someone what you were supposed to do is very different from clearly defining what you did. Bullet A paints a clear picture of how many places you floated, how big the hospital was, and the level of acuity you could encounter. Bullet B includes the fancy buzz word “critical care” (which is a great keyword/phrase), but not much else.
