I wanted to give a shoutout to Kelly McClure, who has been the managing editor for TNB the past two years. TNB would not be where it is today without Kel's dedication to TNB and our community. I am so grateful for everything she has done, and I am excited to see where her next adventure will go! (Don’t worry, she isn’t going far…she will be back this month with a new column!)

Northwest Arkansas woman, Alicia Flanagan, was arrested for allegedly using someone else's identity to obtain healthcare jobs without a license or medical degree. Flanagan reportedly used the credentials of a nurse from Virginia, Alicia Pierce, to secure nursing positions at North Hills and Springdale Health and Rehab. Flanagan faces
charges of practicing medicine without a license and non-financial identity fraud. Her court date is scheduled for May 13.

Spreading Resistance
|
A new WHO study revealed widespread misuse of antibiotics during the Covid-19 pandemic. While only about 8% of patients had bacterial infections requiring antibiotics, 75% received them anyway, contributing to the spread of antibiotic resistance around the globe. From 2020–2022, unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions decreased over time in Europe and
the Americas, but it increased across Africa. Alarmingly, antibiotics with higher resistance potential were the ones most frequently prescribed globally.

Solidarity with Students |
Protests condemning the violence in Gaza are erupting across the US, often resulting in aggressive — if not violent — responses from university administrations and police. National Nurses United has now expressed solidarity with the protesters, advocating for human rights like health, safety, free speech, collective action, and protest. NNU denounced the use of police violence and repression by university administrators against peaceful demonstrators, emphasizing the importance of protest in advocating for justice and condemning any attempts to suppress free speech.
