Good Morning, Readers! |
Team TNB is live from Las Vegas at HLTH, covering the Nurses @ HLTH track! While in line for our badges, we met entrepreneurs curious about the strong nurse presence at a non-nursing conference. Our answer was simple: weβre here to emphasize the need for
nurses to be included at the forefront of innovation.Β
Bre Loughlin, founder of Nurse Disrupted, said it best, "Nurses are here because thereβs an important messageβclinical innovation must be nurse-led to succeed."

Nurse Education Improvements |
Just like the nursing profession, nursing education faces significant challengesβincluding faculty shortages, limited resources, and the impact of COVID-19. Beckerβs investigated potential solutions to these challenges, such as partnerships between academic and clinical settings, new education models integrating students into nursing teams, and specialized training programs to fill pediatric care gaps. To keep up with technological advances, nurses-in-training also need more education in data analytics and leadership skills. These changes could improve student understanding, reduce onboarding time, and improve retention rates.

Life-Saving Fashion |
Letβs face it: necessary medical assistive devices can be quite unsightly. But do they have to be? After being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2021, Destiny Pinto created stylish compression gloves to relieve her pain. She then launched a fashion brand to turn assistive devices like ostomy bags and hearing aids into fashionable accessories. Blending function and style, her designs aim to reduce stigma and improve representation for people with disabilities. Tune in to her Instagram and website to learn when she starts selling.Β

Organ Donation Horror Story |
In October 2021, organ donor TJ Hoover experienced a real life horror story. Hoover, declared dead, was being wheeled in a hospital OR when the organ preservationist saw signs of life, including thrashing movements and tears. Two doctors refused to proceed, and the procedure was eventually canceled. A review of case notes found Hoover also showed signs of life during a
cardiac catheterization procedure earlier in the day. The incident led to staff resignations and federal investigations.

THAT REMOTE LIFE WITH NURSE FERN |
California Dreaminβ... Sort of |
Have you ever seen a remote nursing job posting requesting you to have a California license, but not live in California? Why is that?
Here are a few reasons employers may want you to already have your California license:
A lot of health plans and their members live in California
Employers donβt have to pay for your California license
Rather than waiting several months for your license to get endorsed, youβre ready to rock and roll
So, why donβt they want you to live in California? It could be due to California residents needing higher salaries to meet the cost of living, strict labor laws and taxes that remote out-of-state employers must comply with, and potential time zone discrepancies with the company.
