Dr. Loretta C. Ford, who cofounded the nurse practitioner role in 1965, passed away at the ripe age of 104 years on Jan. 22. A World War II Army Air Force nurse, Ford earned advanced degrees from the University of Colorado and served as dean of the University of Rochester School of Nursing, expanding its programs to include doctoral

A Novel Way to Reduce Stress at Work |
At HCA HealthONE Rose Medical Center in Denver, nurses and other healthcare providers have unusual coworkers: trained emotional-support dogs. The canines helped staff deal with trauma and burnout during the pandemic and beyond. Staff say the dogs provide moments of calm in high-pressure environments, boosting morale and supporting their mental
well-being. Research suggests human-animal interactions can activate the oxytocin system, helping to reduce behavioral and mood issues and relieve physical symptoms of stress.

WHO Reacts to US Withdrawal |
On his first day back in office, President Trump announced he would be withdrawing the U.S. from the WHO, citing mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic. Set to leave by January 2026, the country owes $130 million in fees to the organization and has withheld 2025 contributions. As the U.S. is the WHOβs largest financial backer, the WHO will now be cutting costs and prioritizing programs. This includes halting recruitment, reducing travel, and making meetings virtual.

Welcome back! Today weβre rounding out January with the last of the thyroid diseases and disorders for Thyroid Awareness Month. Letβs get into it!
🦋 This disorder occurs when the thyroid enlarges and has a mass (or masses) on it that secrete an excessive amount of thyroid hormone.Β
🦋 The symptomology looks a lot like a patient who has hyperthyroidism, minus the exophthalmos (protruding eyeballs) seen with Gravesβ disease.
🦋 Treatment of this disorder includes anti-thyroid medications, like PTU (propylthiouracil) and Tapazole (methimazole).Β
