New Collaboration |
There’s big news from ViVE regarding a new collaboration between GE HealthCare and Biofourmis to smooth patients’ transition from hospital care to home. With lower hospital staffing
levels, limited beds, and increasing readmission rates, care costs are growing. However, if patients can receive safe and effective care at home, it can lower costs and readmission risk. So, this collaboration will extend patient monitoring to non-hospital settings with virtual care-at-home solutions. Read more here.

End of an Era |
After 44 years of offering an Associate Degree in Nursing, Houston Community College ended its nursing program on the last day of 2023. The college’s program had been operating with “conditional
approval” since last April because it had not met state standards for three years, including a passing rate on the National Council Licensure Examination-RN below the 80% required to maintain approval. But a significant reason for the low passing rate was insufficient testing sites.

About seven children and teens under age 18 die each day from gunshot wounds in the US, according to a new analysis of CDC data from the Kaiser Family Foundation. Firearm injuries are the leading cause of death for US youth, surpassing car accidents in 2020 as firearm deaths have increased in recent years. Though suicides from guns have risen, homicides have driven most of the increase, with the highest death rates in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Washington, DC.

Leap Year: The Gift of a Day |
We get a Leap Year every four years, giving us the gift of time. What would you do with an extra day? Some parents have a baby on Leap Day (2/29), leading to fun for families, L/D, and NICU nurses.
