Good Morning, Readers! |
Did you ever wonder where the recommendation for drinking eight, eight-ounce glasses of water per day comes from? I recently came across the facts here and was shocked to find out this age-old rule is from 1945! Itβs a bit outdated, donβt you think 👀?

Ebola Vaccine Power-Up |
Usually, you need to get vaccinated against a disease well before youβre infected to be sure your body has time to build up antibodies against the pathogen. But scientists have discovered something extraordinary about the Ebola virus vaccine: it can reduce the risk of death even if given when someoneβs already been infected. The vaccineβs development was already a remarkable achievement, but its ability to prevent death even when given after infection makes it even more impressive.

A New(er) Pox in Town |
Only seven people have been infected with Alaskapox since the disease was discovered in 2015, but now, sadly, the first death from the disease has occurred. The illness is typically mild, but the patient was an older man undergoing cancer treatment, so his weakened immune system likely made it harder to fight the disease, according to Alaskaβs health department bulletin. The disease primarily resides in small mammals but can βjumpβ to humans who encounter sick animals.

Batting for NPs |
Legislators in Mississippi have made it the next state to step up to the plate in favor of expanding practice authority for nurse practitioners. Mississippi Senate Bill 2079 would allow NPs to
work without supervision from a physician after three years of practice, a measure that would also address Mississippiβs growing physician shortage if the bill passes. Last year, Utah became the 27th state to expand NPs roles.

YOUR NEW THING STRATEGY WITH NEW THING NURSE |
Love at Work?Β |
Love can strike at any time. But what if you fall for your boss? Generally, you shouldnβt date your boss. It is often against an employerβs rules and can cause termination. However, many workplaces are more accepting of hospital romances. When considering if you want to date your boss, try these tips to have the best outcome:Β
Are you sure?: Workplace link-ups can seem steamy in theory, but is it worth the logistics of actually dating?Β
Check with HR?: Confirm that your employer has no βdating policyβ to avoid breaking the rules.Β Β
Understand the Consequences: Dating your boss can cause conflicts, distractions, and potentially complicated work situations. Are you ready for all that?Β
The Ex-Factor: Be prepared if the relationship doesnβt work out. Plan how to proceed if your boss becomes your ex.Β
