Ohio Steps Up

The Ohio Nurses Association is asking nurses to support a new bill in the state legislature. The Nurse Workforce and Safe Patient Care Act (House Bill 285) is designed to address the nursing shortage and improve patient care with minimum hospital staffing requirements, a loan-to-grant program for nursing education, the establishment of nurse staffing committees and enhanced whistleblower protections for patients, families, and caregivers. Nurses can use the sample letter here to write their reps. 

Tackling Racism

The US may have come a long way in addressing racism over the centuries, but it has a long way to go, including for nurses, notes an article in Oncology Nursing News. A survey of over 5,600 nurses from the American Nurses Association found that 75% of Black respondents said racism has impacted their mental health in the workplace, and the same proportion of overall respondents have witnessed racism at work. Fortune In the Follow Up

One of my very first business mentors taught me a valuable lesson, "The fortune is in the follow-up!" This has stuck with me throughout my entrepreneurial career and is one of my most significant keys to success. I've landed many brand sponsorships, opportunities, and clients from following up.

It can be easy to focus on needing more new clients, but more than likely, we have people already in our circle we haven't even followed up with. We can quickly get in our own heads and overthink the follow-up. I like to combat this by asking at the end of a meeting if I can follow up. For example, "Would it be ok if I follow up with you in two weeks?" Then, I'll add that to my calendar or to-do list.
