MAHA Report Uses Fabricated Studies |
We previously mentioned that health advocacy groups called RJK Jr.s MAHA report biased and harmful, but an investigation reveals more than simple biases—the report cites over 500 scientific sources, but many were flawed or even fabricated. At least seven studies don’t exist and others misquote real research, while some scientific authors deny involvement with the nonexistent research. Experts say key conclusions, including those on mental health, medication, and screen time, are unsupported or grossly mischaracterized. |

Hypertension Modifiable Risk Factors |
A large study found that people with hypertension can significantly lower their risk of early death by managing key health factors. Those who controlled four or more of eight risk factors—blood pressure, BMI, waist size, cholesterol levels, blood sugar, kidney health, smoking habits, and physical activity—had death rates similar to people without hypertension. People who managed seven or eight risk factors saw a 40% drop in risk of premature death. More research is needed, especially experimental (not observational) research across diverse groups, to support the findings. |

The E-Tattoo for Mental Workload |
Researchers have developed a lightweight, wireless “e-tattoo” that monitors mental workload by measuring brain waves and eye movements. Attached to the forehead, the disposable device performs as well as bulky traditional EEG and EOG systems. Tested on participants doing memory tasks of varying difficulty, the device’s data was used with machine learning to accurately predict cognitive load. It may help professionals like healthcare workers and pilots avoid errors and burnout by signaling when mental effort is too high. The complete device is expected to cost under $200. |

Mystery Diagnosis Minute |
Hey everyone! We finally made it to summer! It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the warm temps to get here! Personally, I can’t wait to head to the beach for some mood-boosting sunshine and much needed R&R, as I’m sure you are, too.
In June, we’re recognizing three very important health awareness months: Alzheimer’s disease, brain health, and PTSD. Today’s mystery diagnosis has to do with a disease that negatively affects brain health. Let’s get into it!
🧠 This brain disease is a fatal disease in which prions begin to take on a 3D shape which ultimately makes the brain also fold into a 3D shape.
🧠 This disease brings on a rapidly worsening form of dementia and can cause mood problems, difficulty with ambulation, and spontaneous muscle movements.
🧠Patients can become infected with a variant of this disease after ingesting beef that has been infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy.
