For Ohio nurse Savannah Shediack, December 27 was more than just a Wednesday — it was officially “Savannah L. Shediack Day” after the city of Dayton honored her for saving a police officer’s life last October. Driving to work, Shediack saw police recruit Solomon Kessio lying on the side of the road—not breathing and with no pulse—after a truck hit him during a training exercise. She administered CPR and cleared his airway. He was transferred to the hospital and survived.

A nurse and three psychiatric technicians are being denied workers comp by Hawaii’s Department of Human Resources Development while dealing with the trauma of witnessing a coworker’s murder. After a patient stabbed and killed nurse Justin Bautista in November at the Hawaii State Hospital, physician Scott Miscovich filed workers comp claims for the employees who saw the murder, administered CPR, tried to stop the bleeding, and tried to stop the patient from harming more people.
