Excessive and prolonged stress can lead to burnout. You can help prevent this from happening by practicing mindfulness meditation, exercising, and taking your breaks at work. Or switch to a less stressful job. The Nursing Process ranked the 30 least stressful nursing jobs that also pay well in 2023 based on various factors. Postpartum care ($148,604) is the way to go if you want a low-stress life. Wound care ($127,569), occupational health ($115,441), nurse education ($104,347), and pre/post-op ($103,422) are good options, too. 

A Schedule Switch

Like psychedelic drugs, including MDMA and psilocybin, marijuana was wrongly classified as a Schedule I substance during the War on Drugs, meaning it poses a high risk of addiction and little medical benefit. HHS has now recommended that the DEA reclassify cannabis as a Schedule III drug alongside ketamine, buprenorphine, and hydrocodone. It’s unclear what this means for the cannabis industry in the long term, aside from changes in taxation that would allow businesses to profit more.

How to Lose Your Job

An Iowa State nurse has just lost her license for several wrongdoings, guiding what not to do if you value your job. The nurse, Alicia Davis, worked as an independent contractor through employer Shiftkey at Greenfield (Iowa) Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. The Iowa Board of Nursing moved after an investigation indicated Davis had slept on the job and sat in her car while on duty, left work without authorization, and was responsible for missing narcotics and failing to administer patient medications.

How to Manage Multiple Nursing Licenses

If you’re embarking on your remote nursing journey, you may question if your single-state nursing license is enough. But before you let your mind race 50 states and four US territories ahead, remember that the nursing licensure a potential employer may require depends on the role. Here are some tips to get started.

1. Start by searching for roles that require a “license in the state of residence” to find jobs that only require a single-state license where you live rather than multiple state licenses throughout the country. 

2. Apply for a Compact state license if you’re eligible.

3. When applying for individual licenses, maintain a folder or Google Doc to keep track of pending action items for that state.

4. Know three things when applying to each state: the Nurse Practice Act, the CEs required, and when licensure renewals are due.
