Antelope Valley Nurses to Strike |
Registered nurses at Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster, California, are set to strike for one-day on November 19 to protest managementβs refusal to negotiate in good faith, retaliation against union activities, and staffing issues. They seek fair labor practices, safe staffing (including limits on floating, standby, and on-call shifts), and improved
retention (Antelopeβs turnover rate is well above the national average). Without a contract since May 25, theyβve previously held an informational picket and spoke out during an Antelope Valley board meeting.

Is US Public Health Under Threat? |
Experts are warning that a second Trump administration, influenced by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.βs anti-vaccine and anti-fluoride stances, poses a significant risk to Americaβs public health system. Trumpβs potential use of βSchedule Fβ could allow him to replace experienced civil servants in health agencies with less qualified individuals, eroding decades of expertise. Kennedyβs promotion of debunked health theories has already fueled dangerous misinformation, contributing to preventable disease outbreaks, they say. Click here and here to learn about the potential future of the FDA and NIH, respectively.

New Stroke Prevention Guidelines |
In new guidelines, the American Stroke Association is stressing that the majority of strokesβup to 80%βare preventable by reducing risk factors. The ASA recommends similar advice weβve heard before: adopt a healthy diet (Mediterranean diet wins again), get regular exercise of at least 10 minutes a day (150 minutes per week is better), and donβt smoke. Providers
are also encouraged to screen for social and health-related risk factors and to consider employing new tools, such as prescribing GLP-1 drugs to patients with obesity.
