Covid Shot Recs Revoked for Kids, Pregnancy

HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. announced that Covid vaccines are no longer recommended for children and during pregnancy, despite the FDA commissioner’s recent NEJM editorial including pregnancy as a high-risk condition warranting vaccination. The “unprecedented” decision bypassed the standard vaccine recommendation process. ACOG issued a statement and expressed disappointment on social media. The AAP provided a statement by Sean O’Leary noting “the decision could strip families of choice” and “the safety of the Covid vaccine has been widely demonstrated.” 

Multitasking: Helpful or Harmful? 

Multitasking is a daily reality for nurses who are juggling multiple patients and priorities at once. But more research is suggesting multitasking is not as helpful as we think it is and can lead to errors. One recent study found that nurses multitasking during medication management took longer to prepare meds, and another showed it “blinds” us to environmental cues that prepare us for what’s coming next. Utah’s Future Regarding Trans Care Research

When Utah became one of the 26 states that bans gender-affirming care for transgender youth, the goal was to give the state time to assess the evidence on the treatment’s risks and benefits. Now that report is ready—over 1,000 pages showing that the benefits outweigh the risks and that youth receiving gender-affirming care have lower suicide risks than those who don’t. The question now: will legislators who supported the bill to protect children’s health now follow the science?
