A Nurse’s Daring Escape

When nurse Alice Loksha Ngaddah was kidnapped in 2018 by a group linked to the terrorist organization Boko Haram in Nigeria, the UNICEF nurse had no idea how long she would live. Two midwives captured with her were executed, so Loksha Ngaddah, who is Christian, faked a conversion to Islam to survive another six years. Read the remarkable story of how she, her 3-year-old son born in captivity, and another abductee managed to sneak out and escape this year.

Telehealth Prescribing Extended

When concerns arose during the pandemic about people being able to fill prescriptions of controlled substances, the federal government allowed telehealth providers to prescribe them under certain conditions. Those allowances were set to expire, but the DEA and HHS just issued another extension for this practice, alleviating the CDC’s concerns that patients’ access to ADHD stimulant medications and opioid addiction meds like buprenorphine could be disrupted, leading to risk of injury and overdose.

Trump Health Picks Are In

Incoming President Donald Trump has made most of his picks to lead various federal health agencies, including Johns Hopkins surgeon Marty Makary for the FDA, TV personality Dr. Oz for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Florida physician and vaccine critic Dave Weldon for the CDC, and Fox News contributor and physician Janette Nesheiwat for Surgeon General. See what some Pharma reps thinks of Makary and what some autism advocates think of RFK Jr.

Tracking Glucose from Sleep to Turkey Dinner

Exciting news from smart ring company Oura, a company we previously partnered with in September! Oura announced a groundbreaking partnership with Dexcom, integrating glucose biosensors with their health-tracking smart ring. This collaboration will allow users to see how sleep, activity, and even your turkey dinner impacts your glucose levels.

With $75 million in new funding and 2.5 million rings already sold, Oura is expanding its capabilities and reach. For nurses, this tech isn’t just trendy—it’s practical. Imagine having a tool that tracks key metrics like heart rate variability, sleep quality, and body temperature, empowering you to stay on top of your health while also managing the demands of patient care.
